Philadelphia Ballet, formerly Pennsylvania Ballet, has cultivated a world-class repertoire of classic ballets with bold new works that challenge dancers and attract diverse audiences for 60 years. Founder Barbara Weisberger’s dream, fostered by George Balanchine, was to bring the best in dance to Philadelphia while developing local talent into world-class performers.
Since 2014, Artistic Director Angel Corella has led the helm in ushering the company toward diverse and exciting new work. Under Corella’s direction, the company has embraced its rich and celebrated past while keeping an eye on the future. The company has toured throughout Pennsylvania and the East Coast at venues such as the New York City Center and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The company’s repertoire has included works by Alvin Ailey, George Balanchine, Hope Boykin, Trisha Brown, Angel Corella, Andonis Foniadakis, William Forsythe, Sir Kenneth MacMillan, Matthew Neenan, Juliano Nunes, Jerome Robbins, Ben Stevenson, Twyla Tharp, Hans Van Manen, Stanton Welch AM, and Christopher Wheeldon.
The company continues to strive to honor the deep and enduring roots that the company has laid over 60 years within the city of Philadelphia while setting the stage for a bold and innovative future.
