The SPB Summer Residential Experience

Summer in Philadelphia with us at Drexel University! Students attending the Summer Intensive Program, Choreographic Workshop, and Company Experience with Angel Corella will be staying at Drexel University’s North Hall Residence, a 10–15-minute commute to Philadelphia Ballet’s Studios at the Louise Reed Center for Dance. SPB has a resident staff to student ratio of 1:12. Laundry facilities, lounge areas, and vending machines are located throughout the residence hall. Security is physically in the building and are on duty 24-hours a day. The residential portion of our summer programs contributes greatly to the overall experience and pre-professional atmosphere created for the students.

THE DINING EXPERIENCE

Monday through Saturday, residents enjoy a catered lunch of their choice* brought to the studio. Students return to Drexel each evening to a delicious dinner to recharge for the next day’s challenges. On Sundays, dinner is provided to round out the week.

Dining highlights include:

  • Salads are served daily.
  • Menus feature whole grains, fresh vegetables, lean meats, and seafood.
  • Milk is free of hormones and antibiotics.
  • Vegetarian, Vegan, & Gluten-Free options are available.
  • Use of locally sourced produce, bakery items, and dairy products.

*Students choose their lunch on a weekly basis from a provided selection.

Summer Evenings and Weekend Activities

After dinner each evening, students may use free time as desired within the parameters of program safety policies. For reasons of safety and security, there are curfew hours and visitor restrictions. Students may not leave the college without another person and there is a process for checking in during extended free time.

Organized social activities take place on weekends. Past years’ outings have included trips to NYC to attend a Broadway show, Ocean City Beach & Boardwalk, and an evening dinner cruise. These trips give students the opportunity to explore Philadelphia and the surrounding areas.

The Philadelphia Experience

One of the nation’s oldest cities, cosmopolitan Philadelphia is small enough to be completely accessible. Drexel University’s 74-acre University City campus functions as the heart of West Philadelphia, and a short commute to the heart of the city. Students will be surrounded by world-renowned museums, restaurants, shops, and other attractions. During free time each week, students can take advantage of the many outstanding opportunities that Philadelphia has to offer.
