The holiday season comes to the stage in our annual performance of George Balanchine’s The Nutcracker®, a tradition unlike any other. Cross swords with the Mouse King and dine with the Sugar Plum Fairy in this quintessential celebration of the season, brightened by the eternal Tchaikovsky score.
Artistic Director Angel Corella reprises his magnum opus, telling the tale of Prince Siegfried, the shapeshifting Odette, and the spellbinding sorcerer who shackles their forbidden romance. Tchaikovsky’s tranquil score glides beneath a moonlit odyssey of longing, forgiveness, and true love.
The beating heart of this triple repertory program is Boléro, choreographed by Artistic Director Angel Corella to the beloved music of Ravel. This ballet’s daring feats of athleticism entrance audiences with deliberate, percussive movements that build in a performance-long crescendo. This is joined by the elegance of Dance Card, choreographed by Russell Ducker and evoking the golden age of high society ballrooms. To complete this dynamic trio of ballets, we proudly present the world premiere of a new work by choreographer Stanton Welch AM.
This double bill of ballets presents a crowning work of the Romantic tradition, La Sylphide, with new choreography from Artistic Director Angel Corella. In the atmospheric setting of the misty Scottish Highlands, a young farmer awakens to the call of a magical forest spirit, putting his marriage, his happiness, and even his own life at risk. Also on the program is Études, choreographed by Harald Lander, which showcases the building blocks of classical ballet as dancers progress from basic movements to pointe. This stunning pair of ballets celebrates the magnificence of dance.
