Meet Laura Bowman Goldstein
Hometown: Raleigh, NC
Laura Bowman Goldstein joined Philadelphia Ballet (formerly Pennsylvania Ballet) under the artistic direction of Roy Kaiser, in August of 2001. Prior to retiring from the stage in 2016, her fifteen-season tenure afforded her the opportunity to work with the current Ruth & A. Morris Williams, Jr. Artistic Director Angel Corella. Ms. Bowman’s versatility afforded her opportunities to perform featured roles in both classical and contemporary works; including those by notable choreographers Angel Corella, George Balanchine, William Forsythe, Jerome Robbins, Jiri Kylian, Christopher Wheeldon, Paul Taylor, and Matthew Neenan. In addition to her work with Philadelphia Ballet, Ms. Bowman performed with Carolina Ballet and BalletX, and in 2010, was cast in the Academy Award-nominated film Black Swan. She has performed in the International Ballet Festival of Miami, the Edinburgh Festival, Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, and the Vail International Dance Festival.
Ms. Bowman fell in love with teaching early in her professional career; first researching the type of educator she wanted to be, then sharing her knowledge and passion for ballet with students and schools. In 2012, she was selected as an inaugural instructor with School of Pennsylvania Ballet, now known as School of Philadelphia Ballet. She has remained with the School since; becoming an integral instructor in the Professional Day Program, under the direction of School Director Davit Karapetyan.
When talking about her promotion to Rehearsal Director, Ms. Bowman says, “I am elated to join Philadelphia Ballet’s artistic team; to help craft meaningful performances for both the dancers and our audiences, while continuing to learn and grow myself. Being in the studio is in my blood. It’s my happy place. Whether I’m teaching class, chatting with the dancers, setting choreography, or coaching fine details leading up to a performance, I feel at home there.”
