Meet Petra

Hometown: Los Angeles, California
Petra Johnson began her dance training in her hometown of Los Angeles, California. She competed in YAGP from 2016-2018, receiving various awards, such as Top 12 at the NYC Finals in 2018. Petra also won the Grand Prize in Classical Ballet in the Music Center’s Spotlight competition in 2019. She then joined Houston Ballet Academy in 2019 for a year, under the directorship of Claudio Munoz. In 2020, Petra was a candidate in the Prix de Lausanne, from which she received a scholarship to San Francisco Ballet School, directed by Patrick Armand. She joined SFBS in 2021, and returned the next year as a Trainee. While at SFBS, Petra had the opportunity to work with the company, under the directorship of first Helgi Tomasson, then Tamara Rojo. In 2024, she joined Boston Ballet II for the last months of their season, under the direction of Joan Boada and Miko Nissinen. Petra’s repertoire while at San Francisco Ballet includes George Balanchine’s Symphony in C, Val Caniparoli’s Stolen Moments, Davide Occhipinti’s Sunhead, and Helgi Tomasson’s Don Quixote, Giselle, Haffner Symphony, Swan Lake, and The Nutcracker. While part of Boston Ballet II, she performed in the company’s production of Kingdom of the Shades, in addition to performing the pas de deux from Le Talisman in BBII’s Next Generation performance at the opera house. Throughout her training, Petra has also trained with Alicia Head, Taina Morales, Zory Karah, and Richard Gibson, and attended summer programs at the Paris Opera Ballet School, Houston Ballet Academy, Royal Ballet School, and most recently, Philadelphia Ballet School. From her summer at the Philadelphia Ballet School, Petra received the offer to join Philadelphia Ballet II.
