Manager, Grant Writing and Research

The Manager, Grant Writing and Research, will be responsible for writing all proposals and reports to institutional funders as well as managing their relationships. In addition, this position will be responsible for researching both institutional and individual prospects, preparing prospect profiles, rating prospects, managing their review and tracking the information in our database. The Manager will be an integral part of the development efforts of Philadelphia Ballet and report directly to the Director of Development.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for conducting the full range of activities required to prepare, submit, and manage grant proposals to foundation and corporate sources.
  • Perform prospect research on foundations and corporations to evaluate prospects for corporate and foundation grants.
  • Work with finance to gather information necessary to report to corporate/foundation funders on current grant programs.
  • Comply with all grant reporting as required by foundation/corporate donors.
  • Provide stewardship to current institutional donors including regular written updates and invitations to programs.
  • Understanding of institutional history and programs.
  • Using a broad spectrum of sources, the employee will research, organize, and evaluate a prospect’s financial capacity, ability to give, willingness to give, charitable interests, and connection to the organization
  • Produce in-depth, well-written reports on prospects based on a combination of data from the donor database, available financial records, real estate ownership, and other markers of high quality donors
  • Write frequent prospect briefings for the use of the development team and manages their regular review
  • Implement new research techniques as they arise, striving to design the ultimate prospect research methodology
  • Assist front-line fundraisers by providing guidance and tracking via Moves Management.
  • Provide staff support at Ballet fundraising events and during performance runs, as needed (evening and weekend hours) and other duties as assigned.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITES, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong written communication skills; ability to write clear, structured, articulate, and persuasive proposals.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize their workload
  • Investigate, analyze, and synthesize large quantities of data into a user-friendly and concise format
  • Work in a deadline driven environment with attention to detail
  • Proficiently work with Microsoft office and databases
  • Be discreet with valuable and personal donor details that are often confidential

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two years experience with grant writing.
  • In depth knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and prospect research databases.
  • Working knowledge of Tessitura preferred.
  • Previous experience with non-profit fundraising.
  • Experience working in deadline-driven environments.
  • Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Able to monitor and meet income goals.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.

Volunteers

Become part of our volunteer corps and join an engaged and energetic group of individuals dedicated to the support and promotion of Philadelphia Ballet. Volunteers serve as some of our best ambassadors, working on special events, fundraisers, and other exciting activities.

  • Provide dancer support with goody bags before each program.
  • Serve on committees and/or volunteer at signature Philadelphia Ballet events.
  • Help Philadelphia Ballet administrative staff with mailings.
