Contemporary Division

NEW for the 2026/27 School Year
Ages 15-20 | Pre-Professional Program
Audition Required

The Contemporary Division at School of Philadelphia Ballet is a distinct, pre-professional training pathway designed to educate versatile, intelligent, and artistically curious dancers for today’s evolving dance world. Rooted in contemporary ballet and modern dance practices, the program emphasizes grounded movement, dynamic use of weight, coordination, musical interpretation, and creative adaptability. While classical technique remains an important foundation, the Contemporary Division develops dancers’ ability to move beyond a single vocabulary and respond to a wide range of choreographic voices.

Students are trained to think critically, move efficiently, and perform with intention. Through contemporary technique classes, repertory, partnering, improvisation, and creative process, dancers gain the tools necessary to function confidently in professional rehearsal environments. The Contemporary Division prepares dancers for second companies, contemporary ballet companies, and mixed-repertory professional companies, where versatility, responsiveness, and artistic individuality are essential.

Registration for the 2026/27 School Year Opens on June 1, 2026!

The 2026/27 School Year begins on August 31, 2026, and ends on June 6, 2027. Families can view the 2026/27 School Calendar at the link below.
