Pre-Professional Program

Ages 12-21
Audition Required

School of Philadelphia Ballet’s Pre-Professional Program is designed for advanced students who are training at an intensive level and preparing for a career in classical ballet. Dancers in this program are expected to demonstrate a strong work ethic, a high level of technical proficiency, and a deep commitment to their training. Faculty offer individualized mentorship to support each dancer’s progression—whether continuing advanced training, pursuing collegiate dance programs, or entering the professional field.

Building on the foundation established in the Student Program, the Pre-Professional Program emphasizes the refinement of classical technique, the development of artistry, and the mastery of performance skills. Dancers train six days per week, with class schedules that may vary depending on rehearsal demands and performance opportunities. Students are expected to complete their academic education through online schooling or homeschooling, allowing the flexibility required for a rigorous pre-professional training schedule.

Dancers in the Pre-Professional Program have the opportunity to perform with Philadelphia Ballet in select productions and participate in community engagement events throughout the season. They may also be selected to represent School of Philadelphia Ballet at prestigious national and international competitions. All Pre-Professional students perform in the annual Spring Showcase each May, highlighting the culmination of their year’s work.

Each level of the Pre-Professional Program follows a two-year track, with opportunities for early advancement based on readiness and progress. There are five levels in the Pre-Professional Program:
