Residence Program FAQ
How do I register for the School Year Residence Program?
Students must first be accepted to one of School of Philadelphia Ballet’s Pre-Professional levels, and must be between the ages of 15 and 20. Registration for the School Year Programs will open in early June. Students must first register for the School Year Program that they have been placed in. Once registered for the school year program, you must submit the “2025-26 School Year Residence Program Application” form by clicking the button in the sidebar above. An SPB team member will then review your application and reach out to you directly through the email provided in the application. Please note that this is an application, not your final registration. Once reviewed, an SPB staff member will be in touch with registration and payment details.
Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis. SPB’s School Year Housing Program. Residence Program registration is subject to availability.
Where can I find pricing for the Residence Program?
2026-27 School Year Residence Program tuition will be added to this page in June 2026.
All school-year leases are 11 months long. Students will move into the residence in mid-August and move out in mid-July.
When is move-in, and how does it work?
Once you register for school year housing, the Residence Manager, Emily Keleher, will reach out to each student individually to identify a date and time for their move-in. Dancers can move in on or after the lease start date of August 15th. Students are responsible for their transportation, including their belongings, to 322 on North Broad Street.
Emily will meet the dancer in the lobby of 322 on North Broad and give them the keys to their new home. Dancers will then be introduced to roommates who have already arrived, be given a brief tour of the building, and Emily will answer any and all questions. Dancers will then be left to unpack and get settled.
Can I tour the building before committing to the program?
Tours are encouraged for students who are looking into the School Year Residence Program! Virtual tours are featured on 322 on North Broad’s website here. If you are visiting the city and are interested in an in-person tour, reach out to Residence Manager, Emily Keleher, at [email protected].
All units come in turn-key condition and are fully furnished. Dancers are only required to bring their personal belongings, such as clothes or decorations. Students must also provide sheets, a blanket, and pillow(s) for their bed. A mattress and mattress cover are provided. Included in the furnishing is also a small pot and pan set, cutlery, and dishware, so students are not required to bring these essentials.
What is included in the one-time cleaning fee?
Included in the one-time cleaning fee is the move-in/move-out deep clean, and monthly basic cleans provided by an independent cleaning service that SPB engages.
Monthly cleanings are designed to assist with general maintenance and upkeep of the units. Monthly cleanings will include vacuuming, mopping, dusting, and surface cleaning in common spaces. School staff will confirm cleaning dates with students at least 24 hours in advance of the scheduled cleaning. Students do not need to be present in the unit during the cleaning service. The move-in/move-out deep cleaning occurs once a year to prepare for incoming students. This cleaning includes vacuuming, mopping, dusting, cleaning surfaces in the kitchen, cleaning kitchen appliances, a deep bathroom cleaning, and more.
While monthly cleaning allows for general upkeep of the units, students are responsible for keeping their apartments clean and tidy. Students are expected to clean their apartment, including common areas, on a regular basis. Residents are encouraged to work together to create a rotating chore list and share cleaning responsibilities.
Can I stay in my school year housing accommodations for the summer following my school year term?
All students’ leases extend through mid-July, and students may stay in their housing accommodations through the summer programs that coincide with the dates of their lease.
How do roommate assignments work?
In your housing application, there is a section where you can request a specific roommate. Both you and the other dancer must record each other as your requested roommate. SPB will do our best to honor your request. If you do not know anyone, you can leave this blank, and SPB will assign a roommate for you.
Students can bring their own car if desired; however, Philadelphia is a very walkable city and has many modes of public transportation, including the subway, buses, regional rail trains, and trolleys. There are also plenty of grocery stores, pharmacies, and markets within a 10-minute walk of the apartments, including Giant, Trader Joe’s, CVS, and more. Students will be provided with a community guide upon their arrival at the start of the program, with everything from grocery stores, pharmacies, coffee shops, restaurants, and more in the area.
